olympus 5050 versus C-750

Discussion in 'Olympus' started by Rui Gonçalves, Sep 13, 2003.

  1. I´ve been looking for a digital camera to replace my old Pentax SLR 35mm.
The Olympus 5050 it´s seems pretty good camera, but 3X optical zoom it´s not
enough ,on the other hand I like the 10x optical zoom with four megapixels
    on the 750.
Oly owners please let´me know witch one is the best value?
Anyone has another suggestion around $500 ?.
    Thanks

    Hi Rui,

I also replaced a large Pentax SLR system and went with the C-5050Z and found
    the zoom to be sufficient.
Maybe it is just me, but I find two thing wrong with monster zooms. 1. they are
difficult to have hold at the longer end of the zoom. 2. they also produce
horrible distortion at both ends of the lens range.
The C-5050Z with a tele converter does the job, mabey not to the extent of the
C750, but so what. Just use the pediatric zoom feature of the C-5050Z and your
    problems are solved.
I also feel the ability to use the FL-20 flash and additional controls a benefit
of the C-5050Z. Jut my opinion.

We've been using the C-750 for equestrian (sports) photography and had
excelent results outdoors. We usually use a monpod, but the few times we
didn't have time to set it up the pics were okay. However, because the
lens is a bit slow, we've found that it's best to turn on the flash
    indoors.
