    Hi,

My wife is after a digital camera. The features she desires are:

.. Reasoably compact - so she can carry it in her handbag.
    .. Point and shoot
.. Infra red remote shutter release
    .. Reasonable zoom
    .. Reasonable resolution
    .. Not too expensive

I was in a camera shop today and saw an Olympus C70. It's quite a good
    size, has 5x optical zoom (I think it's about 38 - 190 equivalent), 7MP
and according to the sales guy comes with an infrared remote control
(although the web site lists it as being optional). They quoted $659.

Does anyone have any comments on this camera? I have heard that its
battery life is pretty poor. My wife would just like to be able to pull
the camera out whenever she wants and take a photo. I guess this could
be an issue with all digital cameras (keeping them charged when not in
    regular use).

Why must she have an infrared shutter release?

I'd recommend the Canon IXUS 55, only 5Mp (but how large will you want
to print to?), but IMO are the best "fit in your pocket" cameras. I've
    had an
older one for years, nice lens, 3x optical, but good solid design, metal
case, still going strong after being dropped many times and generally
    mis-treated.

She likes to take shots with herself in the frame (she's Japanese). It's
a lot easier with infrared than with a timer.
