Anyone own the Olympus Evolt E-300 or had any experience with it? I'd like
to move up to a digital slr from my point and shoot and I've found the kit,
including the 14-45mm and 40-150mm lenses for what I think is a pretty good
price. I realize it's being replaced by the E-500 so I'm trying to see if
it's worth saving about $200 and going for the E-300 or not. Thanks in
    advance for any help.

Try the DPreview OM board for people who have actually used one of these,
rather than Canon users telling you about them! There isn't much difference
performance wise between the 300-500, the 500 has slightly better metering
    would be the main advanatage.

  3. I own the E-300, and I've been pretty happy with it. I looked
briefly at the E-500 at B&H the other day and talked to a salesman, and
while it does have some improvements, it seems to me that they're
relatively minor, and $200, while not a huge amount of money in the
grand scale of things, is a fair percentage of the overall price of
either one. The only thing I really don't like about the kit lenses is
that the focussing is entirely electric, which means it's slow and
imprecise and there are no focus lines on the barrel.
