Olympus Master?

Discussion in 'Olympus' started by Hans Henrik Hansen, Oct 2, 2006.

  1. I wonder if anyone here has experience with this digital photo handling
{I am trying to assist a friend of mine - so I have neither the camera nor
    the program at home! :)}
She wants to compress some pictures by means of the 'Edit' feature. That
works OK, but there seems to be no way of 'saving' the compressed files (no
'save (as)' in the 'File' menu??)
I would be grateful if someone could give a clue (or maybe suggest a more
    appropriate group?)

I have Olympus Master Plus ver 1.11 on my computer.

I can find no reference to "compression" under Edit .

The programme is fairly straight forward.

From the "Main Menu" there five options. The only one of these options that
has an Edit in the menu is "Browse Images".

As the Olympus camera I use stores images in JPEG format, they are already
"compressed" but, of course, they can be compressed further but not with the
    Software supplied with the camera.

    Back to you.

  3. Thanks for your reply; 'compress' may be a misleading term - I guess the
    label is 'resize'(?)
It's no problem to resize a picture, but once I leave the 'Edit' function,
I'm prompted to 'save' the (smaller) picture - and I don't see how.
Anyway, I'm probably going to have a second look at it today, so I will take
some notes and (try to) be more precise next time I ask!

    Well! That's different.

When you are ready to "convert" the image/s to a new size (or format) then
    click on the button "convert"

A "Save As" screen pops up and there are (on my software) two tabs - click
    on "Folder"

From this screen you can navigate to any folder on the computer and give the
    new file any (new) name.

  6. Thanks again - I'm looking forward to try that; will report back in due
    course! :)

Hans, you are better off using regular photo progs like PhotoShop etc to
work on your pics. Olympus Master is not a great program, missing much of
the features of Canon's Zoom Browser. Most use of these progs is filing pics
    on a date taken basis.

Well, thanks Eddie - personally I'm using 'GIMP' (a Linux-based program),
but I'll pass on your good advice to my 'client'! :)
She appears to be very much a novice in this field, so she will probably
prefer 'one (small) step at a time', at least to begin with! :)
