Anybody familiar with any single-function, simple slide
    show programs??

I am in need of some simple, compact, portable slide show
software that I can take to my aged parents so they can
watch all the old, old slides I've scanned. At home I use
the Slide Show options of several Photo Editing packages (like
ACDSee) but I think that the navigation would be more than
the older generation (late 80's) can handle easily.

    thanks,

Kodak Carousel 4200 is a low cost version that I use at home.
It works regardless of platform or OS. Very robust and compatible with
    80 and 140 disk systems.

You might try the rec.photo.digital group.

    Cheers,

Theres a program called "picturetoexe" which is mostly a audio visual
spftware program,it will load up your slides and add music to them in
sequence..trial version have a limit of 10 slides but the full version only
    costs $24.

Ifran view at www.irfanview.com free, small, fast, easy. Open the program,
open one file in a folder, hit the "enter" key to go full screen, use the
mouse buttons, right and left arrow keys, or pace/backspace for forward and
backward navigation. This function and many more.

Firehand Lightning at www.firehand.com is about $50. You make a collection
of photos, enter captions and sound if you wish (import sound or record
right in the program) and export a stand alone .exe slide show, a .scr
screen saver, .exe photo album (with thumbnails), or a .html Web site.

Ifranview is a very nice program which will do what the OP asked for and
is $24 cheaper. :) It won't make an exe or add music, so horses for
    courses.

If you have ezcd creator there is an option to set up something like that. Ive
burned cds of vacation photos that people can just pop into any windows
computer and if autorun is on it will just start showing the pictures in a
slide show on the screen. Not sure if you can control the speed at which the
photos stay on the screen, but if youve already got ezcd then give it a look.

If you have MS PowerPoint on your computer, and assuming your aged
parents don't, then use the "pack and go" function in powerpoint, and
the powerpoint viewer programme (come on the MS Office CD).
