Does anyone know how to retrieve the programs recorded on a Panasonic DVD
recorder hard-drive? I have a DMR-EH50 that froze up a couple of months ago
while trying to divide a title. I need to get shows off of it before trying
a reformat. I know it still works, a computer will recognize it. Also have
    a hex editor program.

If you figure it out, you will be the first. The file system on DVD
recorders is a closely held secret belonging to Panasonic. You have
to consider your programs lost. You might as well just go ahead and
reformat it now. I try to dump keepers to DVD-RAM as soon as I can,
to prevent losing them like you. You never know when a malfunction
will happen. There are places that can recover hard drive contents
from drives used in computers but not from DVD recorder hard drives.

There are about a million other people that would like to know what
you are asking. Nobody has figured it out yet.
