How do I get Paperport 9 Deluxe to scan to a PDF image as a default.
It keeps scanning to a jpg even on text documents.

It started out scanning to PDF, but now seems to scan to jpg.

I use a UMAX 3450 Scanner w Windows XP I did have some difficulty
getting the UMAX twain driver to work. XP had one, but it did not
    work to well.

I have Adobe Acrobat 6 installed.

I did have version 8 and associated the folders from another disk.
When I went to stack a mutipage document, it gave me an error message
that it had to be coverted to PDF or saved as ??? I converted it, but
icon does not look like PDF, rather it appears to be a Paperport icon
and documrent and have the old .max extension.

I searched the help files and Scansoft website, but did not locate an
    answer.

Under Optons, Item, Print to PaperPort, Filetype, it is set to PDF
Image (*.pdf) not PaperPort Image (*.max).

    Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any reason to switch to the Office version?

    Which problem?

    Scan to PDF?

Print to PDF is not the place to fix it. You are trying to scan to
    PDF.

Print and scan are different things.

    Open the Scan pane.

Pick the thing you want to change "Document/Image".

Click the settings link below it.

    Choose the format you want.
