Is the Pentax DL digital a sound body and worth
purchasing or is it much inferior to the DS2.

Is the DL the one with mirrors and not the standard
    pentaprism for a SLR?

    Thanks in advance

Many SLRs have penta-mirrors, but the prism is more desirable.

If you've got the money, get the DS2. The penta-mirror is the only
    difference.

Actually there is a couple of other differences including 11 point focus
compared to 3 point on the DL and the DS2 buffer is larger allowing more
shots consecutively, include the penta prism versus the mirror and the DL
    looks poor by comparison.

    if you're buying a DSLR
Is this really a fact for other major brands like
    canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus?

It's true for the Nikon D50, Canon digital rebel and The
    Olympus E-500.
