Give me a hint, I am not into import/export that much.

Fletchers in Canberra will have my order pretty soon, as soon as they
    confirm same pricing.

another casualty of the business mantra that
wants to "create markets", instead of selling
    what the customer wants...

  6. That rumour seems to be very strong, I've heard it from a number of
sources, but nothing from the "horse's mouth" so to speak.

or a company that imports Leica..... or Nikon themselves... or even
    Maxwell's under new management.......Nikon's!

I have heard all of these mentioned.... all seem reasonable, and all
    from reasonable sources....

the only thing which is clear.... is maxwells are not looking good. Ask
them directly and you get a rumour monger comment!

What about the other products they handle? Are there other imported
    for those products?

Nikon have loaded Maxwell up with P&S digital cameras to sell (which are
    too expensive.)

Does that mean that it is Nikons fault that Maxwells had to take what Nikon
    pushed on them?

  12. Yeah, the Nikon P&S's really aren't in the hunt pricewise. eg Nikon's
P&S entry point is $299. At that price or less there is the Kodak
    C643/C663, Olympus FE190/FE120, Samsung S600, Fuji A600, Pentax E10,
    Ricoh RR630, Casio Z110 - all 6MP 3x Zoom models. The Nikon $299 entry
level is the L4, at a rather lean 4MP. Admittedly the Nikon does have
some good features, such as the face priority AF, red eye removal, and
standard with rechargeable batteries, but when competing in the sub $500
category it is all about megapixel and zoom - they just aren't in the hunt.

Ah yes that would cause a problem.

thier p&s's last year seemed to almost take a slight step backwards.....
and the new range does not offer anything outstading other than the S5.
If it is a good size it will compete nicely agaginst the S3IS, though if
it had a sizable range of backup acc. similar to the 4500 they could
    have had a winner there.

Probably. Nikon keeps insisting on P&S with models
that simply aren't there. That's gonna backfire sooner
    or later...
On the other hand, Maxwells deliberately misinform
folks about what is available in certain ranges.
Tamron comes to mind. There might well be others...

Not a good way to run a business. A lot of such folks
seem to think that the market "should be" what suits
them. It doesn't work, it never did : nothing new there,
nothing to do with modern economics.

we had a catologue produced.... the day it hit the streets, cameras were
unavailable for 2 months..... a waste of effort and money for all
parties accept for maxwells who will just add it to the backorder
list.... at this rate, I hope that list will be eventually filled.

if indeed this is more than a rumour... it has been the worst kept
    secret in the industry!

DPreview is great in it's own right, but sometimes it pissed me off merely
because it "doesn't" compare products. Perhaps it should be more aptly named
www.dpinformation.com or something. It gives you all the great info in the
camera at hand, but doesn't really toss up and advantages/disadvantages over
other similar cameras in the area. Say in this case, how does the K10D stack
    up to a 30D or a D200, D80 etc?

Anyhoo ... good info none the less.

It does let you do comparisons side by side, it does also "sometimes" have
photos shot from the same place under similar conditions, I guess Phil tries
to keep out of the my brand is better than your brand war because sometimes
the "subjective" evaluation is not that subjective and most of the cameras
are really pretty good and people will have slightly differing
    needs/wants/requirements.
