I just installed the 1.03 firmware update on my camera. It promises
more accurate shake reduction, but I neglected to do a good set of
multiple before and after test shots at different exposure times and
focal lengths. Has anyone managed to do so and make an assessment of
    any improvements?

And does anyone know the nature of the improvements? Corrected math
errors? More optimized coding for faster calculations and more
frequent adjustments? Something else? All they say on the site is
    "Improved SR (Shake Reduction) accuracy."

There has been a lot of posts on DP Review on the Pentax D-SLR forum and
while some have gushed on how much faster their AF is including one that was
worried that he would strip gears in his lens it was so fast I suspect that
while AF may be more accurate any AF speed increases would be barely
measurable, mind you if it is gaining focus lock more quickly with the new
firmware then that would be good and would in fact mean faster AF.

All the above said you in fact revert back to the 1.01 firmware and test
before reapplying the firmware if you like.

I do have the 1.01 file handy, but I don't think I'll bother with it.

I don't know if the AF lock is coming quicker, but the action does
seem more aggressive and the seeking it sometimes does seems to have
switched from a quick zzp-zzp-zzp to a rapid chatter.

I'm not worried about the gears - I don't switch in and out of AF
often enough to be grinding them much :) - but I wonder if it might
put a dent in my battery life. I have the auto display of shots turned
off so my battery life has been so long I can never remember when I
charged it last, though, so I'm figuring any impact will still leave
me with a tolerable period between charges.
