ANyone know what these are like? $349 from, just seems too cheap to be true
    for a 5MP camera, 3x optical zoom. What's the catch? I Can
find plenty of reviews for the more expensive Optio models, but
not the S50. Anyone got any hands-on with one?

I'm starting to research a second camera - we have an A95, I
want a second to take away with me for 10 weeks, which needs to
be smaller than the A95 - I really do need it to fit comfortably
in a pocket (airforce recruit training, the're not gonna let me
have a camera case slung over my shoulder or strapped to my
belt), I'd like 4 or 5 MP, as I'm not the greatest photographer
on the planet, and I'd like to be able to have some room for
decent crops to make a good photo. Some sturdyness would be
nice, as it might get a little roughness through training. One
thing I love about the A95 is 2 shots per second in burst mode,
for a few shots - I'd really like something similar in anything
else I get. Manual exposure controls also a big plus.

I've still got about 3 months to research, look about, and see
what else hits the market, but so far, the Optio S50 looks
pretty good, unless someone has seen otherwise. (New A510 could
be a winner as well..) Budget is probably going to be about $400

Image quality is "second rate" according to Steve's Digicams...

"If you're in the market for an easy to use compact 5-megapixel digicam, I
recommend that you spend a few more dollars and consider the SONY Cyber-shot
DSC-P93 or the Canon PowerShot A95 instead."

Dirtcheap has the Sony for $476 and the Canon for $532, which obviously
makes the Pentax more attractive pricewise.

I've not got any personal experience with the camera but Steves-DC has a
review you might be interested in:

Now why didn't I find that when I was looking for it? <sigh>

Thanks for the feedback folks, sounds like I'll avoid this one
:) I'll see what the Ixus prices do in the next few months.
