Perth shop with Canon Lens (price/stock)

  1. Itching to spend $1150 for 2 lenses now -

Anyone know of a Perth shop with a Canon 50mm f1.8 and the Canon 70-300mm IS
USM (new model) in stock now for $1150 cash? Preference in the suburbs
    rather than City.

You'd get pretty close in Albany....

But quite why you'd want the 70-300mm is beyond me! :)

Yep Albany. I've found him honest and reliable and I'm half a
    continent removed.

His postage rates are pretty fair as well.

    Hi Shaw

welcome to digital photography, why these lenses, do you already have
something to fit on the wide end?

Sunday there is a photo swap meet in Leederville, Cambridge st, you could
get lucky and pick up something useful.
don't you have some contacts in Singapore or HongKong?

    Hope you are well

  12. Hiya Henrik, long time no see.

I got the 17-85 IS which is plenty wide enough. Thanks for the tips on the
swapmeet - any idea of times and address?

As for buying overseas, I have just got back from HK, and find that the
savings is not worthwhile. I would rather support the local economy if
there is less than 20% savings. A shop there quoted HKD$5,500 for the
70-300 IS . That Albany webshop is selling at $1029.

    Somehow that amazes me too.
in HK the cheapest my friend saw was HKD 5300 ~ AUD 900. Here even the RRP
    is already $1099.
Haggle a bit + bring it overseas for your holiday , you might end up cheaper
    than in HK :D

and also the 5D .. HKD 30000 ~ AUD 5000 , and here you can get them at AUD
    5099 !

  14. I have come to the conclusion, that apart from some exceptions, electronics
and computers are no longer much cheaper in Asia. This has slowly come
about since the end of Sales Tax (22% on most electronics) as well as the
    digital age.

As I know computer prices, and travel overseas many times, I always keep an
    eye on prices.

Moral of the story... Support our economy! Buy locally. Shaft the
government that 10% GST if you have to. But remember, there are
    exceptions... for example;
    - 1 (and only 1) particular brand of notebook that I know of
    - Tightly controlled parallel imported stuff (software)
    - Items that have too tiny a market here to be competitive
    etc

<-- I dun mind buying local, as long they are charging good rates.
Like the Nikon service guy I frequent [Poraday] excellent work and pretty
    reasonable rate.

Nikon otoh charges a premium for their gears.
D2x AUD 5000 in Malaysia, here $6200 and cash :D

    [that's D2x ... D70s $1800 here vs $1100 from Singapore ]

    Shaw,

thanks, busy as usual, fighting an uphill battle and winning :)

buying overseas is still worth while, when you buy the more excotic lenses!
in Canon-Land they have this little red ring around their neck :)
I don't think buying consumer camera gear makes any different as you say.
then I wouldn't buy one of these. You can ask Tony about my camera :)) too
much to mention but a lot of fun to use

Getting into this thread late, I noticed mention of that Albany webshop.

If you're talking about qualitycamera.com.au, I can confirm good pricing,
very quick supply, good knowlege and no hassles. Canon only I think, maybe
    even SLR.
