Am I missing something with Phase One software?

I like to keep my software to the minimum, but Phase One seems to be
popular. I suppose Lightroom is also popular, but I am not sure what they
    can do that PS can't?

  6. How much are you paying me to do your research? I don't recall
offhand, but was it something in the $50/hour range?

Absolutely nothing. Which is what this has to do with Capture One.

    C'mon Lawrence,
You can do better than that...
You seem to have a tendency to repeat yourself (exactly the same comment as
    in "sensor noise..."
If that's all you have to contribute, you might as well save your fingers

  10. Marcel, "Capture One" IIRC was _never_ mentioned in the Original Post.
I'm not going to go back to look, as I've just had a medical emergency
here wherein my wife broke her arm within the last 30 minutes.

    That's the first POINT.

The second point is, "Phase One Software" is so easy to get to on the
web through google, that it is disingenuous to come on ANY newsgroup
and ask somebody for a reference to it.

From the Phase One Sight, Capture One is a selection. Here, I'll show
    you:
    http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/ProSoftware/ProductOverview.aspx

That took about 15 seconds in all.

Now, what kind of information are we *members* supposed to supply to
the OP that he/she cannot get at this URL?

I'm not in the business of changing diapers for assholes on this n/g,
so if you shit your pants, YOU CLEAN IT UP, got it?

    Have a nice fucking day.

Imagine the mood he'll be in if his diagnosis of his wife's injury was correct
and he has to drive her to work, shopping, etc. for the next six weeks.

    Bob,
I suppose you're right... perhaps I was a little harsh on the man,
considering his wife had broken her arm half an hour before and he had to
take the time to explain to me why he isn't in the business to change
diapers... I bet his wife broke her arm trying to belt him one ;-)))
    Take care,

    <Huge Snip>

Lawence, I think you're confused about what Capture One can and cannot
do. Capture One is used to process RAW files. While it can be used to
process the RAW files taken by a camera attached to a 360Precision
pano head and it can be part of the workflow to create the spherical
panorama in the link you provided, it CANNOT create the actual
    panorama.

I'm pretty sure the panorama in the link you provided was created
using PTMac (www.kekus.com), but there are other programs. I saw
nothing to suggest Capture One was used to process the RAW files.

I could find only one reference to Phase One on the 360Precision
website, and that was for camera/lens compatability. The two companies
and their products are completely independent: neither requires the
    other.

    Ergo ... WTF?

OP: Whether you're missing something by not using Capture One really
depends on your workflow and whether you're happy with the RAW
    converter you're currently using.

For me, Capture One PRO is not an option and won't be considered until
it offers full DNG support. I won't consider Bibble for the same
    reason.

Phase One still offers a trial version of Capture One, so it won't
cost you anything to try it.

If you mean the Capture One raw converter, it allows a much different work
    flow.

What camera do you own.? If it was supported by RawShooter Essentials you
might give that a try. Pixmantec was started up by one of the key
developers of Capture One, IIRC and has/had a similar work flow. I've used
RSE for years processing images from my D70 and D200. Alas, Adobe bought
them up so it is a dead end product. But if you have a supported camera
it's still a decent choice for the time being.

Upon getting a D300, I gave Capture One and Bibble a try. I found Bibble to
have more features and was totally annoyed with questions posed to Phase
One tech support on the web forum being answered as if they were text
messaging from a cell phone. Both allow a similar work flow where one can
view images at 100% and quickly cull out the bad shots. While I have CS2 I
never was able to come close to this speed in either CS2 or Bridge. I also
find Capture NX which I got with the D300 to be glacial compared to either
C1 or Bibble for this task.

Everyone has a 30 day full featured demo, why not give it a try. Do DL the
documentation as well and take a look at it so you can do a real
    evaluation.

Was. Bad day at Bad Rock. Orthopedic Surgeon said immobilize, no
operation. But, this is 3 months without an arm to use.

I've been thinking this entire thing over and have changed my mind.
You _are_ qualified to pick the Peanut Shells out of my shit.

But without further credentials, don't come within 500 meters of any
of MY cameras...I'll get a Court Restraining Order if need be.

Now, go break a leg, or an arm, or like me...two summers ago, all at
the same time, your neck, your arm, and your back. That will give you
something to DO for a while. Roll around in pain looking for your
*dope fix* to help you feel better.

If you had only one arm, you wouldn't be able to type on the computer,
as it would always be in your underwear trying to find your dick.
    dick.
