Picture quality changing when I power an XH-A1 off and on?

  1. I just finished a shoot this weekend using a Canon XH-A1, and I noticed a
very peculiar thing: the picture quality changed considerably (colour
depth) from shot to shot whenever the camera shut itself off (power
    save).

I had the camera on full manual mode ("M"), with auto gain off, auto
white balance off, gain set to low (0) and the exposure at the same
settings (1/30, 4.0, 30f). I double checked these settings, they never
changed. I was using a custom function to define such things as zoom
control, taking pictures while in video mode, etc. but I did not make
changes to colour correction or anything like that.

Still, whenever the camera shut itself off and I turned it back on, the
picture quality seemed to change as well, as if some setting (like gain)
was stuck on auto. The only way I could "fix" this was to turn off the
custom function and use the camera's factory defaults.

Any ideas what the problem could be? I'm none too pleased, as this will
require a lot of adjustments in post. I hope it's just some stupid
    oversight on my part.
