Pinnacle MovieBox DV and not pinnacle software

  1. Hello Everybody!
I need to buy a video capture card to acquire video tapes from a common
VCR to my PC (running WinXP Pro)
I'm a developer so I need the card to be 3rd software compatible so I can
write software to control it by myself (i.e. through DirectShow)
I've already bought the Pinnacle MovieBox USB... It's great, the
acquisition is fantastic as well as the output, but it has a terrible
drawback fo me: it only works with the provided Pinnacle Studio, Windows
itself has no access to it (Windows Movie Maker itself can't make it
    work!!)
I read that the MovieBox DV uses WinXP drivers to work so I hope it can
    work with 3rd party software.
But I'm only a student and buying another quite expensive useless video
editing card (at least for me!) is not a great thing!:(
I asked to Pinnacle stuff, but they answered me saying that they have
never tested it with other software...
Is there anybody so kind that can tell me something about that??
Or suggest me a card with the same properties and the same price?
Thank You very much in advance!
    Stefano B.
