I have purchased Pinnacle Studio Quickstart and notice that it has very
limited functionality even after registering. Before I installed I had
a registered version 8. I had to uninstall and now have less
functionality than I had with Studio 8.

I have been to the links and it seems as if I will have to purchase at
least 3 upgrades. In doing this I wonder if anybody can tell me if they
have done this and if the result was full functionality or if there is
    more to come.

What can I expect when I upgrade? What do I need to purchase to get the
full functionality of Studio 9 and FX?

Look for Pinnacle Studio 9 Full Edition on eBay.

Let me amend that, even if you get the so-called "full edition" there are a
number of things that are "locked" that you have to pay to activate.
However, nothing I think I'll ever had any great need for, different
transitions, effects and filters that may be of dubious benefit.

Actually you can keep an eye open for sales from Frys, Compusa, and
even Best Buy and other chain outlet stores and they have been having
sales where the price is cheaper than Ebay and you can pick it up that
day. With upgrade rebates it can even be cheaper. Look on Pinnacle
site they sometimes have sales on combined items.
