Pinnacle Sudio does not read some of my AVIs

I downloaded several TV shows in AVI format. Windows Media Player plays
all of them, but it is not so with my other video utilities. For
example Pinnacle Studio 9.4 reads some of them but not others. The
situation is the same with dvdSanta, which dislikes the same files that
Pinnacle Studio does. I noticed in file properties, that all the files
that cannot be read have "video sample rate" as 32-bit, whearas the
    rest are 24-bit.

Any ideas as to how I could fix this problem will be appreciated. I am
trying to convert the AVIs to DVD and Pinnacle Studio seems to be doing
a good job. ConvertXToDVD can read all of them, but the result was
horrible: Too much flickering, even at the highest quality settings.

They are probably Xvid's. Have you tried Gordian Knot or Avi2DVD?

AVI is not a video format, but a file format -- it's a kind of wrapper than
can hold a variety of different video codecs. Most likely, the files you
downloaded are transcoded by a codec that Pinnacle can't read.
