I've just acquired a Praktica BC 1600 flash, and on the box it says it's a
dedicated flash for the Praktica BC Series. Am I right in thinking it will
not work with other cameras? I've tried it with my cheapo Yunon YN300 and
it only went off once. It works fine when I press the test button.

  2. Paul, you should be able to use this flash on any camera with a hot shoe.

The "dedication" feature is simply an additional contact on the foot that,
when mounted on a BC series camera, switches the automatic shutter speed
setting over to the flash synch speed (1/90s) and lights a green LED in the
viewfinder when the flash capacitor is charged and ready to fire.

Mounted on the hot shoe of any other camera the flash will fire as normal as
long as the contact pins on the base of the flash are mating correctly with
the hot shoe and the capacitor is charged.

IIRC the BC1600 has both auto and manual settings and the guide number is 16

Thanks for the info. I've tried it out again, and there seems to be a fault
either with the flash or the camera.
