I am currently editing in Premiere Pro using only firewire.
Everything looks good, but one part I am still wondering about:
To look at clips on my tv I each time have to connect my cam via Firewire to
the PC,then use composite cables from the cam to connect to Scart to the TV.
    Is there a better way??
I can use video out on my graphics card, but....

You can get a breakout box from Pinnacle that allows you to preview on a
    monitor. They're ~$1,000, I think.

Ironically, they usually come packaged with Premiere.

Thanks. I actually have a breakout box on my old editing card (DC30+), but
    without firewire.
I hoped there were an cheapier way to accomplish this.
Like a firewire to composite adapter.
    Yeah right...

Canopus ADVC100 is a firewire to composite adaptor, but it is probably
not as cheap as you want.

Maybe someday all AV monitors will have firewire in.

  5. There was a $300 Sony converter box (it would also accept
analogue in and convert it to digital [FireWire] out) - but why not
just leave your camcorder hooked up instead, and unhook it when
you want to use it for shooting?
