Problem with BBC iPlayer Download Manager

Discussion in 'Video Cameras' started by Anthony R. Gold, Sep 1, 2008.

  1. I'm unable to run the BBC iPlayer Download Manager and need advice on what
could be preventing it. If I try to run it I see the Kontiki host running
in task manager but there is no GUI.

The program installs without error, it knows it's installed because if I
run the installer again I am only offered options removing or repair, yet
when I ask a browser to download a TV program I am told that I may not do
that until I first install the BBC download manager.

Has anyone any experience with this program or else could I be directed to
a more appropriate newsgroup or other forum.

Try asking in the correct group, perhaps a computer group?

It's possible that your system's firewall is preventing parts
of the iplayer suite from talking to each other, or to the outside
world (I vaguely recall such an issue when I set this up for someone
    else.)

As for a more appropriate forum, uk.tech.tv.video.pvr is a sort-of-appropriate
newsgroup, but probably won't be any better than this one. But for
    non-news forums, try:

    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/getting_started/DMinstallproblem

(iplayer help site, that link goes to a particular problem that may or
may not be relevant to yours)

    or

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/F7331805

    - the iplayer message boards.

  4. Thanks for the pointers Kevin. I'll try those message boards.
