PS CS2 noise reduction for JPEGs is GARBAGE

Worthless. Use any other programs, even Paint Shop Pros. I fail to
understand why the RAW NR is acceptable while the JPEG is near
useless. It basically smears detail like a touch-up brush on
    steroids.

  2. Uh, this is rather old, even if it were true. CS3 has been out for a
long time now. Folks needing NR regularly usually and generally turn to
Neat Image, Noise Ninja and other plugns.

Run along, now, and find another crib to troll about in.

Is is true, and since you aren't aware that it is, then maybe others
    aren't either?

  4. Whatever. I used the subjunctive. IAE, it doan matter nohow, dontcha
know, as the 'subject' is old.

In other words, it is a moot point.

In other words, even if it were true, it doesn't matter.

    In other words.......

    end.

The only noise really worth concerning yourself with is colour noise.
Nikon and Pentax have done a fine job handling that in-camera with their
recent models. It just looks like film grain now and the PS noise
removal tool works quite OK on it if you really want a plastic looking
    image.

I've found the Noise Reduction Filter in CS2 does a pretty good job.
There are better tools out there. If you need more or you frequently
work with images that need NR, take a look at Noise Ninja and Neat
    Image.

In the mean time, can you give us sample image and the Noise Reduction
    Filter settings you used?

  8. No, he can't! He just seems to like posting for the sake of seeing
replies. I am now going to sit in the corner as I've replied twice.

    oh the shame

It is true. I have CS2 and have no real desire to pay (even at
academic discount) for CS3. The raw NR is indeed OK in CS2,
and I paid for Noise Ninja long ago.

I 'm sure he can ... I'm pretty sure there will be numerous Pigasus
    sightings before he will.

I'm a little curious as to why he's blathering on about CS2 and its
supposed inadequacies. Since February the shots he recently posted to
    pbase were processed with CS3.

One feature of CS3 you may not be aware of is it can open a JPEG file in
ACR, apply the very excellent NR in that module and move the corrected
picture to PS for further work. Not only this but ACR in CS3 does lens
error correction and a whole host of image repairs that simply can't be
    done in CS2.

I upgraded to the extended version but haven't yet used any of the
extended features. The cost of CS3 upgrade can be considered as the
extras I found so useful are roughly equivalent to the cost of a bunch
of plugins. Of course having recently bought a new camera I also needed
to upgrade to get at it's RAW files.

John, I am growing weary of your posts. You criticize others for responding
to obvious trolls, and yet you cannot resist them.

    Please take your own advice.

Yes, attacking for nothing is one thing, but doing it AND answering
questions aimed specifically at other people really is pathetic.

Considering you keep changing your posting handle to thwart those of us who
simply wish to killfile your ass, you have no business giving anyone any
    crap. Rich, now Richard.

  16. Try kill-filing < rander3127 > instead of everything else in the from
line... Should be easy enough to do, it isn't like trying to filter
    based on Message ID.
