I am looking to buy a digital camcorder and want to transfer the
videos taken with it to dvd via my computer. How do I get the video
onto my computer, with a usb cable? or must I buy new hardware for my
    Computer.

    Thanks for your help.

I already have DVD movie factory 2 which came with another program I
    bought.

    Zig,

Usually you would use Firewire (IEEE1394) to transfer the video in DV to
your hard drive. PCI Firewire card are pretty inexpensive, or might have
    Firewire on your mobo already.

Then edit and encode to DVD-compliant MPEG2, and a suitable audio format.
Then author the DVD and burn to a DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. Check whick DVD
format works best (if at all) with your expected playback device (e.g
    Domestic DVD-player).

    Lots of info here:
