question: newsgroup access on Internet

Discussion in 'Professional Video Production' started by Porter L. Versfelt III, Feb 3, 2005.

  1. Soon AOL will remove all links to Internet newsgroups. A BIG mistake in my
opinion, but complaints to AOL are fallying on apparently deaf ears (no
surprise?). Anyway,I don't want to lose touch with this newsgroup. I know this
has been mentioned before here, but I have forgotten. Where can I see this
newsgroup at no charge on the Internet? Read as well as respond to postings?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to www.google.com and click on 'groups'.

If you sub to Netscape, their mailbox page includes usenet access.

  3. Google Groups would be my first response:

This doesn't seem as convenient as a standard newsgroup server... so you might
want to look around for any that are publicly available. There are also
some commercial news servers (these seem to run ~$7/mo).

If you are on broadband, you may want to explore receiving a USENET feed
directly (no idea what is involved in this, nor how badly it would violate
your terms of service with your broadband provider)

    Take a look here:

    News.Individual.NET

If you have internet access, you should be able to access their NNTP servers
using Outlook Express or something similar. As I recall, it requires an
application, but there is no charge.
