Recommend a good, basic photo editor ?

  3. Thanks I've found it now, that's quite a useful plugin, shame it doesn't
    have simple levels control sliders too though: although you can in
    theory achieve the same effect by adjusting the curve, the top/bottom
    control points are too far from the histogram to position them accurately
    at the indicated white/black points (in fact I'm not sure the two displays
    correspond exactly in their horizontal brightness scales).

    For years I've used Irfanview as my photoviewer of choice, but it will
    also do some basic editing exactly as you describe, it's quick and easy
    to learn and use, and it's free.

  5. I use DxO for lens corrections, but I use LightZone for editing. It is
    about as pure a photo editor as you can find. In fact, one of my
    frustrations with it is you cannot combine two images to fake a
    double-exposure. It also lacks any graphics art capabilities. It just
    does photos. It also has a darkroom metaphor that I like very much.
    However, your comments suggest that wouldn't matter to you.
