recommendation needed - teleconverter for 80-400 VR & D200

    if you get a 1.4x, you'll lose a stop, so the lens becomes an f/6.3-f/8
    zoom, putting it past the official autofocus limit. it might still
    focus in good light, but it will probably be slower and not that
    reliable.

    that said, the kenko pro 300 (or the tamron equivalent) is excellent,
    but it is probably not worth it for that lens.

    None of the Nikon AF teleconverters will physically fit on this lens
    and you could damage the lens if you try.

    The only other teleconverters said to be worth a hoot are the Kenko Pro
    series. Check out Nikonians teleconverter compatibility chart at:

    The chart is currently being updated and corrected for errors and omissions.
