Recommended Photo Card for Coolpix 5700

Discussion in 'Digital Cameras' started by Larry R Harrison Jr, May 1, 2004.

  1. I just won a Coolpix 5700 on eBay; can't wait to get it. (Amazing how much
its price--a la the rebate etc--has come down since the introduction of the
D70, as it should--great though the 5700 is, given it vs a D70 at the same
price, most would undoubtedly opt for the D70. I sure would.)

Anyway, of course I need a bigger Compact Flash card than the 16 meg it
comes with--or even the 64 meg and 128 meg cards I have lying around from my
Coolpix 775. Such is the subject of my post today.

I would like to shoot mostly RAW photos, although on occasion I MAY shoot
Fine JPEGs. I figure--if the camera has RAW capability, why not use it? I
know little about post-processing a la RAW, but I'd like to shoot in it
    anyway so nothing is "final."

Therefore obviously I need a bigger card. I'm also concerned about speed,
too. What type do I need to look for in terms of having enough speed that it
won't lock up the camera excessively?

Also--at the risk of being a tight-wad--at least for now I need to keep the
    price below $150. I can't spend $300 on a Lexar 40X 1 Gigabyte card, much as
    I'd love to.

    Tips?

First, you can't get a D70 with lens that equals the focal range of the
57000 for the same price. You're comparing apples and oranges.
A good reason NOT to use it is how long it takes to write the file. 20+
    sec, seehttp://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp5700/page12.asp
but I've experienced the same with an 8x Lexar.
FWIW, the 5700 does not support WA cards.

  3. Okay, dumb question--FWIW, what are WA cards?
