Recording on a remote PC

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by silentwarrior1621, Apr 16, 2007.

  1. Hi,

I was wondering if there was any software that would allow me, from a
server-style machine, to connect to a remote PC, record the desktop on
video there, and store it on the server. Sorry for this being such a
general question, but I can't think of a better way to describe it.

    Thanks....

  2. There are certainly several products that will let you remote
control a PC. There are also several products that will
"record" what is happening on a PC screen. Any reason
these existing products wouldn't do what you need? You
aren't trying to do this covertly or something tricky, are you?

Not exactly sure if this is what you want to do, but I capture, via Turtle
Beach board, to my main server, thru my workstation. Not a problem. Now, for
NLE, I find that I cannot work directly from the server (just too bloody
slow), but will just copy the files over to the workstation and do everything
there, copying back to the server for archiving.

    Hope that this helps,
    Hunt

  4. No, I'm not trying to control the PC or sneak a peek. I work on some
programs that require this capability. I guess I'm just trying to
figure out the best way to capture desktop video remotely. What are
some programs that can do this?

    Thanks...

  6. You are really asking two different questions.
One about remote controlling a PC. And the other
about recording what is seen on a PC screen.
AFAIK, there is no single application that does both.

Can you install recording software on the remote PC?
Or must you try to record it from your PC?
What sort of quality expectations do you have?
What do you want to do with the recording?

I've never seen any remote-control product that was
as good as if you were actually at the computer,
whether trying to record or not.

You could be describing a webcam on a server that saves up video streams
and supplies bits of the streams on demand.
