Recovering files on a formatted card

Anyone know of a program that can recover files from a card that has been
    formatted?
My Fuji stores the photos in a subdirectory.
Formatting the card removes the directory which is recreated when the first
    photo is taken.
No program that I have tried can recover files after a format, but plenty
    can recover deleted files.

    TIA

You could try Handy Recovery 1.0 (freeware).
It is a very powerful program!

Only recovers deleted files, not formatted disk with no directory.

PhotoRescue will recover images from a formatted card, just did it twice,
once in card reader and repeated in camera. I've posted this before in
another thread. This is one of the claims made by this product (and others).

    It doesn't work Dave.
I have tried the following programs.
All can recover deleted files, but none have been successful with a
    formatted card.
I assume it is because of the directory structure, which appears on the PC
    as
    F:\DCIM\100_FUJI
Formatting the card, in the camera, removes both directories.

Try "Recover My Photos", www.recover-my-photos.com. It has a free preview of
deleted photos in the demo download version.

    Good luck

I own PhotoRescue and it has never failed me. I have taken sample photos,
formatted the card and recovered every one of them plus other photos that
were on the card from previous shoots. I'm very surprised to hear it did not
    work for you.

There are a few Fuji and Olympus cameras that when they format a card also
erase the entire card making file recovery impossible.

PhotoRescue does work if a camera only formats the card. Nothing will work
for the few Fuji & Olympus cameras that erase all information on the card.

    Thanks for the insight Bill.
    I have a Fuji S304.
How can I tell what it is actually doing?

Well I must have performed magic or it does. But then different cameras
    might format differently.
It worked from my 256MB CF card formated in a Canon S45.
