  2. Smarty, this is great help to David (I hope).

As for me, it scares me a little. I'm shooting my next short in HD in two
weeks, and I intend to edit in Vegas (not having settled on Avid yet). I'm
afraid of getting the dreaded red frames, is this a phenomenon with clips
    captured directly to hard disk?

    jaybee,

I'm not really sure what the cause of the problem is. Having used Vegas for
nearly 5 years, I have not personally experienced this problem, and have not
seen any other remarks or comments about the red/black frame issue until
this post showed up today on the Vegas support forum. Up until today, it was
my impression that David was the only one encountering this problem, but it
is now apparent that he is not alone.

I would not let this specific issue stop you from using Vegas for editing.
It is a solid and reliable piece of software, and this red/black issue is
extremely rare. Vegas 8 has been out a long time, and this is the very first
post I have seen on this subject other than David's newsgroup post. There
was a black frame issue in an earlier version of Vegas, but this was
    resolved long ago.
