Reducing image size

Discussion in 'Photoshop Tutorials' started by Robert HarrisJr., Aug 2, 2003.

  1. When I download my digital images and open them with photoshop the images
    are much larger than the viewingh size, I have reduced them to 8 x 11, but
    when I pritn them out they are still huge, any ideas on how to rezie or
    shrink the file size so when I print the whole image will be porinted. I
    amshooting my digital images at 6 million pixels. Could that be why they are
    so big? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Charles;
    Yes, at 6 megapixels , you will have large images
    ....both in size & resolution. If you only want smaller sizes all the time,
    you can write an action & then run a batch to reduce all images at once. So
    if you create 20 images at one time ... you could change all at once for
    those 20. Please let us know if you know how to write an action & also use
    the batch function . On a one photo at a time basis ...try cropping in
    version 7 with 250 ppi for resolution and whatever size you want . If you
    want a typical 8"x10" image just enter that in the upper toolbar along with
    the resolution and then use the crop tool. Good luck ;

    Photoshop, Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard, and Epson printers all have
    check boxes somewhere to fit an image to a page and to center it. If you're
    using Windows XP, the Photo Printing Wizard is the most foolproof way
    to do this (I know this seems strange, but XP does actually have a few
    good features). If you want to print from Photoshop, use Files->Print With
    Preview, and explore the options. I do NOT recommend resampling the image
    to make it smaller. 6 megapixels is about right for printing on 8.5x11
    paper.

    When I download my digital images and open them with photoshop the images
    Use the Image Size command. Turn off the checkbox labelled "Resample image."
    Put in the width and height you want. Make your printout. Viola!
