Okay... i figure you guys get probably asked this A MILLION times. But...
I'm at my wits' end. I'm a pretty smart cookie usually, but I'm lost here.

I'm downloading episodes off the internet and when I want to burn them as a
DVD [using Nero Vision Express 3] the audio is out of sync. By about a
second or 2 [depends]. I've narrowed down the problem to the fact it's a
xvid with a vbr mp3 audio track. WMP can read it fine and not have that out
of sync problem, but for some reason any sort of recoding does.

I've tried using VirtualDub but it rips the WAV out and the 42min avi file
comes out to only a 29min wav file. odd... so I found AVI Mix_Gui and for
some reason i can REDO the avi and then go back into Virtual dub, use the
second avi file, and rip the wav, and now it's a proper 42m wave file.

Good right? Well, just when i tell Virtual Dub to use the original avi with
the new wave for audio and recode it, it makes a new file, BUT still has a
second or so delay [last few minutes are horrid] when it's turned to the
    dvd.

I'm losing my sanity... please help.

Errors in the original avi perhaps? Check for errors with virtualdub.
Otherwise delete 1-2 seconds of silence to the wav before you encode
to dvd (you add silence if the sound is before the lip movements). AV
sync problems are a real headbanger at times.
