  5. River Fire was very ordinary... nothing like what they have done in previous
years..... perhaps they just had most of the action near Southbank??? ...in
previous years the bridge reach (where I was) was the better spot, but this
year they had one barge WAY down the other end.... and they TOTALLY
    under-utilised the bridge.... go figure?

here is the one shot that was worth keeping from last night
    http://www.pixelpix.com.au/RiverFire_Copyright_PixelPix.jpg the other action
down the end was too far away without swapping lenses, and doing this would
most likely have made me miss the bridge shot that I was after, so I simply
    did not bother.

needless to say I will not miss any sleep by NOT going next year.

  6. How long is a piece of string?? :-(

Fireworks vary greatly and while a 5-15 sec exposure at f11 may capture
colourful fireworks perfectly, if a huge white blast happens in the final
couple of seconds it will stuff things right up! I had this happen last
night unfortunately... I shot a 13 sec exposure to get the fireworks running
across the bridge, but in the last second of the exposure BOOM!! the whole
    thing lit up white :-(

So the simple answer is.... there isn't one!

Try starting with 5-10 secs at f11, try to avoid the white ones and shoot
    heaps!

More will be up later, but these were what my fiance took on a Canon
Powershot S45. I have a roll of 35mm from my EOS 300 that I'll add later
    this week after developing/scanning etc.

It's not from Riverfire this year, but 2001 (I had to attend a wedding
on the Gold Coast while Riverfire was on this year - damn).

Anyway. this is the F-111 dump and burn from 2001:
http://www.bradleydwyer.com/riverfire.jpg (It will only be hosted here
    for a limited time).

    (Also hosted on photosig ->

The shot details are listed on the photosig link. As usual, the image
is copyrighted, so don't use it for anything without my permission
(eg, your viewing pleasure only - it's low res anyway) :)

    Enjoy.

Unfortunately some dumb schmuck stood in the bottom corner of my dump and
burn photo with a digital camera, ruining the shot.

I wonder if there was a third photographer standing behind you
who's now complaining about the "dumb schmuck" who ruined
    his or her photo.
