I've been helping out burning DVD-R's on a friend's machine using Roxio
Easy CD & DVD Creator (from MPEG-2 AVIs).

I'm very impressed. Quality is good. Prepare/burn times are good (1h 30m
in about 2 hours). Also we got a 2 hour video on a DVD-R (compared with
using either DVD Architect or DVD Workshop which both max out at about
1h 25min unless I piss about first, reducing the bit rate to get the
    MPEG-2 down in size).

The menuing system is a little restricted, though IMHO it should be OK
    for most people.

  2. Glad to hear someone else praising the application Tony!
It's the one I use myself (well, the Platinum upgrade) but I find it
excellent and haven't had any trouble yet (now there's a stupid thing to
    say....)
