SanDisk USB 2.0 CF Card Reader Dead

Discussion in 'Digital Cameras' started by Ernest T. Bass, Jan 12, 2004.

  1. After 3 whole weeks of use. The system recognizes the reader, I can
transfer pics direct from the camera (Minolta DiMage s414), device manager
has been checked and drivers reinstalled. The reader cannot read a card.
In Explorer when I click on Drive G (the reader), it tells me to insert a
disk...DiMage Viewer and ThumbsPlus V6 have the same problem.

Sandisk not recommended....btw, I have slow USB 1.1, but do have Firewire
which is faster...anyone know of a Firewire connect CF Card Reader?

    Thanks

  2. I should add this: I am using nothing but Sandisk CF Cards and they have
performed well, some of them for over four years now. I just think the
reader is crap...but, I could have got that one in 100,000

SanDisk had some bad cards out. Mine came in their Cruzer thumb-drive.
Contact them and prepare to give them the serial number on the back of the
card. My 256 card was erratic and sometimes I could flip the lock switch
tab back and forth and it would read. Couldn't even format at times. Very
odd behavior: sometimes read errors, occasional write (format) errors. They
knew immediately and even sent me a pre-paid Fed-Ex label via e-mail so I
could return it to them. Turn around was about 2 weeks. The new card never
misses a beat and performs very well compared to the funky behavior of the
    previous one.

There was some website that listed the bad serial numbers of a lot of SD and
CF cards somewhere on the web.
