    Hi all
Have been scouring the net looking for a pocket camera for wife.
I like the look of Canon SD 1000 or SD 1100, My Camera House has never
heard of them !! Can anyone tell me if they are available in Australia,
    Brisbane ? Many thanks

Have you thought of plugging the reference into Google and finding out if
the camera has another identity in other parts of the world?

Looks like the IXUS range that they sell in Australia, I think all our
models are a higher spec and start at 8MP.

The SD1000 was released in or about February 2007, so it's not a new camera.

Probably the salesdroid hasn't heard of them; Camera House surely would

Not surprising, because they are foreign designations. If
you called Canon Australia they'd probably even tell you
they hadn't heard of them. According to dpreview the SD1000
is the Ixus 70, while the SD1100 is the IXUS80.
Ixus 70 is discontinued, although there might be some with
old stock. Ixus 80 is a current model - you should find it
at any camera house, harvey norman, teds, etc.

Thanks guys for the replies, particularly Doug for alerting me to the
name charges. Have just returned from the PMA Imaging Technology Show in
Brisbane.....the brain is in a spin!
For those that may be interested, think I have settled with a Sony
DSCW110, the big decider, as the Canon has, a view finder!!
The number of times I have been unable to snap due to the LCD screen !!
