Seth McFarlane's Oscar Performance....

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Existential Angst, Feb 26, 2013.

  1. Without commenting on whether it was good or bad, tasteful or gauche, etc, I
think one could objectively say that it was..... FLAWLESS. Yea? Nay??

Apropos of some older threads on the art of public speaking, teleprompters,
in-ear prompters, and what Steve King referred to as essentially eternal
practice, I think his delivery, over the whole 4 hours, was phenomenal.
Reminds me almost of some of George Carlin's "supernatural" performances.

So what are some opinions on this..... was this the result of sheer raw
memorizing talent, super-teleprompters (at every conceivable angle),
masterful in-ear prompting, or all three? Any other tricks? Or was any of
    this extemporaneous, improvised??

If I lived to be 250 years old, practicing every day, I doubt if I could
muster a delivery like that, with in-orifice prompting in every orifice in
my body, including brain probes. lol

  2. Yes, it was smooth and polished. But I just couldn't place him - what has he
been in? He doesn't seem like a comedian per se, more like a concierge or an
    announcer or a Ryan Seacrest.

  4. I did not see "the oscars" this year (or any other year, once I
realized I had a choice...;-), but if you have ever heard Seth
McFarlane speak in interviews, etc., you KNOW that he has a VERY
unusually well-developed "gift of gab" (much more on him is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seth_MacFarlane ). It is one of the
characteristics of his humor that it often edges somewhat over
the boundaries of what you might think is possible without
offending most people (see a few episodes of "Family Guy"). Now
I'm sorry I missed "the oscars" this year (I probably would have
actually enjoyed watching it this time...;-).

  5. Indeed, 4 hrs of my life irretrievably gone, but at least I was able to
witness some oral artistry -- so to speak..... lol

but if you have ever heard Seth
You should catch the first 1/2-1hr, just as a "student of the art".
    Flawless, in my unschooled opinion.

Oh, he indeed pushed some boundaries. :)

    And "gift of gab" indeed.....
Mebbe he no need no stinkin prompting, eh?? lol

But couldn't find the "I/WE saw your Boobs" song, generally removed from
Utube (Copyright?). Thank God I taped the awards ;->
