We are looking at either the Nikon Coolpix 5000, 5400 or 5700. We currently
have a Kodak DC5000 and really dislike the long pause from when we press
the shutter button to when the shutter actually fires. I know lots of
digital camera do this but would be interested if any of the 3 Coolpixs
models mentioned above have solved that problem.

To the best of my knowledge, all digital cameras have a shutter lag,
regardless of brand and model. A good digital photographer learns to take
the lag into account when shooting photos as much as possible.
