I help out my local church on with their video projects on the side and the
pastor has started streaming his sermons live on the internet. He's had some
favorable responses and now wants to stream some of his educational lectures
online but needs the ability to switch back and forth from a live stream to
either graphics or pre-recorded video. He doesn't really feel comfortable
with any sort of switching equipment so I was wondering if there was any
software out there that if set up properly could just switch back and forth
from the live stream to some segments I've already set up for him. I've
tried searching but all I seem to come up with is professional grade
insertion software for TV stations or just video production software that
doesn't really have anything to do with streaming.

Idealy I'm looking for something that I can go in and set up on Sunday with
all his graphics and video so that when he starts his stream on say Tuesday
he just has to click the occasional button with his mouse and... this is the
important part :) ... I don't have to be there to hold his hand.

it is still not clear on what you want.
Do you want the minster to switch between recordings when streaming so he
can switch between streaming a sermon to streaming a educational lecture?

Why not have a web site where the user can choose what video they want to
view by clicking on it, like you do for YouTube?

Ahh.. sorry.. what I want is for the minister to be giving a lecture via
live stream, then when he gets to certain points in the lecture, click a
button and go from the live stream to a video segment I've set up for him,
then when the segment is done click another button to go back to the live
    stream lecture.

  4. A little bit like using an overhead projector to show slides at various
    points in a lecture...

If you remember those old days :)

It might be easier to record his lecture then add in the video segments
before finally streaming the video. Its also useful if any mistakes need to
be removed. Does he need his lecture to be streamed live?

Unfortunately he really wants to do it live... I think he plans to do some
sort of live email answer or web chat q&a while he does the lecture?
