$1800 (estimated price, with 18-55 lens)
Still seems expensive, considering the rrp for the
camera/lens kit in the US is $US999, which
works out to AUD $1536 at current exchange rate.

Closer to $1600 at any realistic rate. +GST gives $1760. And thats without
considering the hedging costs that the company is building in to make sure
they don't get burnt badly if the exchange rate moves too much in the wrong

I'd say $1800 is a pretty fair price based on that!

i only caught the bit after the ads when they had a list of stuff they showed
during the segment (damn tease!:)). did they have an actual camera on stage
and what did he say about it?
    Obake, Aug 25, 2003

  9. Yes, they had one, the first in Australia and move over sliced bread THIS is
man's greatest invention. Well, accordng to them anyway :)

  10. $1536 plus $153.60 GST works out to $1689.60, so $1800 is only $110.40
extra, or a 6.5% premium. hardly a ripoff!!!!! especially given the
traditionally huge markup we face in oz...actually fairly decent. and i
expect this to drop rapidly too, closer to $1600

You might like to take a read of this review:

Seems to do a reasonable job of pointing out the differences. Most other

    are missing out on.

Excellent, all the flaws of a dslr system, plus cheap body to boot...

Now the sony f828 is something i could get excited about... use it as at
waist-lvl, with nightshot, the perfect candid/streetphoto camera.
    Valar, Aug 25, 2003
  17. not with slow AF, average shutter lag/burst mode and crap noise at high ISOs
it's not, plus like the 10D it's not exactly a small body. doesnt mean to
say it won't work of course, but it's far from ideal for this application
