When I plug a firewire cable into the DV port on the Sony DCR-TRV350,
I get a "DV in" on the bottom right hand corner of the viewfinder. I
guess that means the camcorder is ready for video signal to be sent
into the camcorder. How do I change it to DV out so that I can send
video signals from the camcorder to another device . . . like my

The manual is a wonderful resource for this sort of thing.

Look at page 208 for starters.

If you hit play on the tape, it will automatically start outputting
    via firewire....

Otherwise, flip it to camera mode and it will output a live preview
out firewire. You don't need to specifally make it DV out.

Your camera is ready to send DV to your computer when you see the "DV
IN" in the view finder. Just start the capturing process with your
    video software.

If you are talking using your camera to convert an analog signal for
capturing to your computer, you have to make the appropriate setting
    in the camera's menu.

I have tried that. But that is for signal convert function.

For some reason Adobe Premiere 6.5 does not recognize that a DV
camcorder has been connected to my i.Link port on my Sony VAIO
notebook. So I thought maybe I have to change "DV in" to "DV out".

Has anyone gotten Adobe Premiere 6.5 to recognize the TRV350

Yes, but it shows you how to change DV IN/OUT.
Premiere 6.0 does so 6.5 shouldn't be a problem but the key may be
    your VAIO.

Are you running XP? If so, does the TRV350 show up in the control
panel under System > Hardware > Device Manager > Imaging Devices as a
    Sony DV Camcorder?

I tried that last night. The string on the screen does not change to "DV out".
I am running Windows 98. It shows up as Sony DVCR.
I installed the Firewire driver from here last night:

Now it shows up as 1394 DV Camcorder. But Premiere still does not recognize it.
