    I've just had a look at a friend's TRV340 and his manual.

    The OP must:

    1...Select VCR
    2. Go to the menu and set DATE CODE to DATE
    3. Using the Remote Commander, press DATE CODE.

If he wants to restore the date code, press the DATE CODE
    again on the Remote Commander.

Instructions are at the top of Page 36 in the manual (with a reference
to the menu setting on Page 105)..

I really think the OP should spend a little time reading the manual :)

There's nothing i like more than finding a love letter from Tony
What is it with Sony and their Remote Commanders?! I can't playback in
slow motion without the damn Remote.. Crazy!

Not enough room on the camcorder for all those extra buttons and things.
My TRV30 is bad enough - I dunno how folk get on with the new breed of
    minuscule camcorders.

Yeh good one -- shows how to change the date -- and time -- NOT how to
turn it off --- yes I have read the manual back to front 3 times....

    Thanks Captain obvious
