Yes my Camera some 5 years old has the CCD Fault, I did ring Sony many years ago here regarding the
faulty CCD's, but here in NZ they were at a total loose as then new nothing about it, but I did ask
them if it failed later will it be replaced and they seem to think so.

I had all the Web docs that refer to these bad CCD's devices.

Problem is Sony no longer has Offices here moved them all to OZZ.

Any one else had the CCD fault as I know it affected stacks of cameras and brands..

My Serial No. is on the fault list.

My Canon S60 and my father's Canon A4xx (I forget the number) both had
the Sony sensors fail. Canon replaced them free of charge (late last
year) well outside the camera warranty period. I would think Sony
    would/should do the same.

Sorry but I will stat again they have No Service departments here all moved to OZZ I am in the TV
service Trade, they have given it from the list provided to Next electronics, this is Not Sony or
really a camera repair outfit, more of a TV repair firm mostly started from the collapse of Tisco
    here.

Philips here have done the same thing..

  5. Well, they seem to list an awful lot of non-existent service
    locations.
I'm not quite sure what you are saying, but it sounds like...
... you are complaining about Sony's choice of service contractors -
fine. But what exactly do you want from a usenet enquiry? You appear
to already know that Sony might be willing to replace the sensor.
Have they refused to do so? .. or are you not enquiring because you
do not trust the local service firm that Sony is using?

Have you contacted Sony in writing? We don't know where you are, but
just randomly picking a region I found this:

    Sony Solutions Centre
    25 Nugent St
    Grafton
    09 970 1200
    09 970 1213
    service(at)sony.co.nz

Certainly *sounds* like a Sony service centre, and there is a genuine
    Sony email address there...

Make an email enquiry first and see what transpires. If you don't get
    anywhere,*then* come back.

No just getting some feed back on what others did, camera worked a few months ago but was failing to
day, Its not used to often as I have a DMC W1, I always thought there might be a cut off date, the
Camera is registered with them with the 5 Year warrantee, if there is a Cut off date that they
    really should have informed me.

Yes I have dealt with them some years back regarding a 5 Year warrantee and the CCD problem, at that
time they new nothing at all about the CCD problem, but from what I have found out they moved all
to OZZ and gave most of the Service to Next Electronics..

From resent searches on the New it seem to have a Cut of date of Late 2007..

I have a original Sony Web post about this problem and there was no mention of a cut off date and
when talking to Sony here, just stating that the CCD will be replaced for free.
