    Hi all ...

Yes ... I am still torturing myself trying to figure out what computer
    to get next.

I have been doing some reading on the TiVO-like capabilities of the
Sony VAIO line and they sound quite intriguing.

However I do have several other things I need to accomplish with this
    box.

Namely -- I copied a number of my old VHS and Hi8 tapes onto DVD-R
through a stand-alone JVC VCR / DVD Recorder.

Question ... does a Sony VAIO RA828G have the software I need in order
to get these videos copied from the DVD's I burned and then edit them
in Premiere or something of the sort?
If so, how exactly would I go about this?

    Thanks!

Don't know what recent VAIOs have, but you've proposed a procedure that you
don't want to follow. Meaning: To edit the VHS material you've already burned
to "movie" DVDs, you want to re-capture the original analog tape in some *.avi
format that does not compress the signal 20:1 or more (as MPEG2 does). Edit
it. Then re-author your DVDs. Much better quality that way.
