TBC/NR jitter in S-VHS ET JVC VCR

    I have a JVC HR-S9911U S-VHS-ET VCR with Digipure TBC/NR. When I enable the
TBC/NR there's a significant noise reduction and overall improvement of the
picture during playback. However, when the TBC/NR is enabled, the picture
suffers from a noticeably momentary vertical jitter (quarter inch up-down)
at irregular, but short intervals. I tried many tapes, old, new, expensive
and cheap ones - the results are all the same.

I brought the VCR for repair at a shop, adjusted the back tension, but the
problem persists. I don't think the problem is mechanical, as it only
appears to be when the TBC is enabled.

As a former TV producer I recorded some archives on S-VHS-ET and now would
like to transfer them to DVD without the inherent noise of SVHS-ET. The
picture quality with the TBC/NR on is amazing and the transfer would be
perfect, only if the jitter wasn't present.

Are there any suggestions? Is the TBC circuitry faulty? If yes, what the
shop has to check for? Is anyone else experiencing this jitter during
playback when the TBC/NTR is on?

    Thanks

I have a 9900U. When I cycle the TBC button there is a noticable
horizontal shift to the picture. Perhaps the TBC on your recorder is
turning on and off and that is what you are seeing.

Perhaps the TBC on your recorder is
I too suspect that the TBC is cycling on/off. Is this a normal behaviour
for this VCR? I think that the TBC should turn on and stay on. Or there's a
    problem with the TBC section?

I do not have an answer for you. Mine works great, and I leave the TBC
    on all the time.

    That *is* weird.

What about tapes recorded on that unit, same problem?

Just looking at all the features at B&H and guessing, are there any
features that might conflict with or overload the TBC, like the Picture
    Control settings, or vice-versa?

Tapes recorded in the same unit are equally jittery regardless if they were
recorded on this or on my other HR-S3600U. VHS tapes play with a somewhat
more stable an occasional jitter here and there when TBC is on. Real S-VHS
are somewhat jittery and S-VHS-ET are the worst.

So I'll thake the unit back to the shop for a second time, and I hope that
the tech will be able to fix it. Thanks all.
