This camera seemed to suit my needs for less than AU$500 and one can get a
dive case for it. Any comments is there something better for about the same
price. What I want is 6 megapixels or better 3X optical zoom and I quite
liked the ant shake feature ( don't know how well they work )

thanks and sorry if this is a dumb newbies question

As far as I know, the LZ5 is an old model and has been superceded by the LZ6
and then the LZ7. It's not a bad camera, but things do move on a bit. I also
have a feeling it's a bit old hat in video terms and doesn't have built in
speaker or some other limitations. The screen may also not be as good as on
later models. It would have to be VERY cheap to be worth buying.

Have a look at the Panasonic TZ2 or TZ3 (the latter has a 3 inch screen).
They give you a 10x zoom with wide angle and a nice hi-res screen.

I don't know if there's an underwater case yet for the new models, but there
surely will eb one before long.

Just curious, Why would you want the FZ5 and not the FZ50?
