Those of you who follow my posts may have seen this coming, but I think I
have known it in my heart for a long time.

I am going back to using Nikon as my primary equipment and by the end of
this month I will add a D70 to my current crop of Nikon bodies and lenses.

I thought about it for a long time and after weighing up all the options I
decided that instead of spending a lot of money upgrading my Canon lenses
to the professional level, I might as well look at doing it with Nikon
stuff. I already have the F2 and F4s, plus a clutch of really, really nice
Nikon lenses, so all I need to do is add a digital option. The D70 seems
to be the right camera for the job.

I've never been fully at ease with Canon EOS gear and when I got the F4s I
remembered why: the Nikon equipment is just ergonomically better suited to
the way I like to photograph. I feel more at home. With EOS gear I was
always having to remember which button and dial did what and in a lot of
instances I ended up messing up what I wanted to do. Having "grown" into
photography with Nikon stuff, I feel right at home using it.

So, I dropped off my EOS 30, 20mm f/2.8, ST-E2 and 420EX at the shop
where I will be ordering my D70 from today. They are going to help me sell
them off. I already have a buyer for the 550EX and my 85mm f/1.8 and the
proceeds from those two items will give me half of the cash I need for the

All that remains is the venerable D60 and 28-135mm. Incredibly, finding a
buyer for them is not turning out to be as simple as I thought it would
be. I think once I get a buyer for those two, I will look at getting the
80-200mm AF-S and then later the 17-35mm.'s good to be back!

Summer months are less than ideal anyway. Let people return from their
vacations and you may have better luck.
