    PINNACLE STUDIO 10 USERS REVIEWS:
    http://www.amazon.com/

WASTE OF MONEY, November 13, 2005

I have used several consumer-grade video
editing software titles over the years.
When I wanted to upgrade from Nero 6 I
saw how Pinnacle included a green screen
and thought it would be a good value.
    I was wrong.

The software did not install easily.
Once installed it wanted to upgrade
itself, but it crashes when it does this.
So I manually downloaded the patch and
was up and running again. Then another
patch comes along. After installing the
    2nd patch it tells me I don't have a
valid serial number and it forces me
    to re-install the software. So I can't
    use the patch.

These are the kind of flaws I'd expect
from a cut-rate software, not something
priced on par with better developer's
    software.

And this software needs some patches.
It will hang up frequently, and will
stop displaying scenes as it fills up
my RAM. Yet I have 1G of RAM and 5G of
virtual RAM set up on my machine.

I have been able to create some projects
with this software, but if I hadn't already
been soaked for $130 I'd replace it in a
    heartbeat.

    POORLY DESIGNED, MALFUNCTIONING,
    RESOURSE(sic) HOG,
    November 9, 2005

This software comes with four cds but
Pinnacle only put three in a cd sleeve,
leaving the fourth to be banged around
during shipment and arrived highly scratched.
During the installation process you are
prompted to install the 3rd cd but fails
to install. I had to manually install the
3rd disk and then go back to the main
install program to finish. That installation
is for Studio Plus 10 only. The MediaSuite
portion is contained on the 4th cd.
    After starting this installation,
it refused to recognise the previous
Studio Plus 10 installation (a requirement)
and exits. A problem that Pinnacle is
    currently working on.

THE PROGRAM IS BARELY OUT ON THE SHELF
AND WE'RE UP TO THREE PATCHES SO FAR.

All this combined with a 90+ minute install,
cd-key PLUS online activation, lengthy start
time and the fact that the MediaSuite portion
is dead-out-of-the-box makes this software a
    definate waste of money.

    CAN'T BE INSTALLED AND INACCESSABLE(sic)
    TECH SUPPORT
    November 12, 2005

When I attepted to install the Studio 10
package it asks for a Serial number, but
there is none. On their web site, they
claim that there is a yellow slip of paper
with the number on it, but there is no such
thing. Their tech support requires that you
register with them, which you can't do without
a serial number. Bogus. Finally, their non-800
number telephone support has a wait time of
over 30 minutes. Can this be worth it?

    DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE,
    October 13, 2005

It is complete junk! Had version 8, it had
it's troubles, but worked pretty well.
Avoided 9 due to poor reviews. Bought 10
(a big mistake). Takes forever to load,
and after it is loaded, does not work well
at all! Hopefully some updates will come
soon to make this software usable.
    DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!

    WARNING-DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
    OR TIME ON THIS SOFTWARE
    October 12, 2005

While this product advertises a rich list
of features, it is so full of bugs that even
a technically savvy general consumer wouldn't
be able to use this product satisfactorily.
The program launches very slowly, the program
responds very slowly when it is finally running,
the Bonus DVD does not load, video playback is
choppy, and on my machine the video playback
    lacked sound.

Also, Pinnacle's support has to be the worst
in the business. Their online help is difficult
to navigate and provides little information
that is helpful. When submitting a question
by email their response times are very slow
(24-48 hours to get a response) and when you
do get a response it is cryptic at best.
If you call their support desk, you only
get one phone call. All calls after the
initial call cost $25. Pretty sad
    considering their product doesn't
even work when you load it on your
    machine. Finally, their technical
support is only opened 12 hours a
    day Monday-Friday, so good luck
    reaching them.

I have asked for a refund, but because
    their technical support team still
wants to try to resolve the issues
they won't grant me one. They want
to waste hours of my time trying
to fix a piece of software that
is obviously a piece of junk and
    wasn't properly tested before it
    was released.

Don't make my mistake and waste
    your money. The headache just
    isn't worth it.

Nappy why are you always posting negative stuff. Are you such a miserable
person that you like to share with everyone? What software do you use and
what do you like about? What do you like about anything? Everyone already
    knows what you don't like.

    You know the good news?

They are listening to their customers and fixing problems as they find
    them. Yes, there is a v10.1, v10.1.1 and a v10.1.2.

Now those problems will never affect me.

I like that. I may discover some other problems, but they will be
fixed so I can do my work.

BTW - you can't afford a software package that is bug free. First, it
would never get out of developement and testing. Second, if it did, it
would be so expensive that no one would be able to purchase it. Third,
if it were expensive, corporations would be the only one to purchase it
and they wouldn't because of lack of support.

    So this is good news.

  6. I have yet to read Nappy blasting anything that didn't
richly deserve it. And Nappy has told us what he likes
    and uses more than once.

Maybe you should hang around here more before blasting
people. It is called "lurking" and is considered good netiqitte.
You can also use groups.google.com to go back and
answer your questions that we have already covered.

I had Pinnacle Edition for a year through three upgrades. At some
point it took me three days to edit a film that should have taken one.
At that point I'd had enough and invested the money in an eBay Mac and
Final Cut Pro. No more troubles no more crashes, no more demands to
    insert disc etc etc.

I think you can tell the quality of software from the discussion on the
main support groups. The Edition site was always full of complaints and
requests to Pinnacle for help, mostly either unanswered or unhelpfully
answered. I monitored the FCP sites for a while before I spent money
and the difference was amazing - no whingeing, no crashing, just how-to
requests. I still have Edition on the pc and sometimes I have to go
back to it - and realise why I spent all that extra money on FCP.

  8. A mate of me was just here, and he has been using
Pinnacle 8 & 9. But he has enough of all the problems,
and asked me to help him install Premiere Pro.
    Yep, Pinnacle lost another customer!

    cheers

I have hung here for years and know nappy's lame posts. For anyone to
start a post in any NG like he constantly does with nothing helpful is
trollish to the highest level. Part time trolling is still trolling even if
you seem to enjoy it. Pinnacle has a rep that is well know and to continue
this negative hype is lame and childish plain and simple.

Pinnacle has always worked fine for me. I have many applications that are
pure junk but I don't continually cry about it.

Who cares if you plonk me. I am not one of your little boys that would get
his fellings hurt by purchasing SW that doesn't work and continually hang
around to troll like you and your little buddies. maybe I will add an Si to
me addy so no one will know it's me. IDIOT

I'd have to disagree on that. Pinnacle's software may be buggy, painful
to use and crash my PC a lot, but I've always found their US online
support staff fast and helpful... at least with things they can
resolve, rather than the numerous random crashes for no apparent
    reason.

Not that I'd ever buy another Pinnacle product myself unless angels
flew down from heaven to sing the praises of their new release...

Hmmm...I have been in the Pinnacle forums since v5 of LE. Yes, there are
people with problems. Some, unfortunatly, will never get resolved. But,
you seem to have neglected all the positive comments and sharing that
goes on there. But then, if you only want to see the "bad" you will.

Now.. name me one NLE that has NO problems listed in their user forums.

I'll be waiting for the answer.

Yeah.. great review. As for patches, I would think that it is something
    good.

And... Pinnacle is now owned by Avid... so you will have to say now that
Avid sux. How could Avid (who released v10) allow such a buggy piece of
crap escape to the market place.

And.. once again... name me one NLE (and we are not talking WMM stuff)
that doesn't have any problems. Show me one forum where everyone is
    happy with their product.

    I'll be waiting.

BTW... an extremely happy Liquid Edition v6.1 Pro user. Studio 9+ also.

I haven't taken the plunge to 10, and don't really see the need since
Avid Liquid v7 will fill my needs.

You are wasting your time trying to reason with this lame crowd headed by
nappy and a few other toads that seem to enjoy negativity and constant
complaining. I have been lurking here for years and some people never
change. Anyone with more than half a brain knows what you are saying but
common sense falls on deaf ears in this crowd.
