  3. Are you kidding?! I LOVE auto shows and sports shows. One of the
biggest thrills of my life was when I got to meet Mario Andretti! I
was the only woman in line waiting to meet him. I stood out like a
    sore thumb, but I didn't care. :)

Yeah.....I met Stirling Moss once.....At the Pacific Grand Prix in Monterey,
back in '56 I think it was. He had just won the race with a Lotus that
looked like it had gone through a hurricane. It was stripped of anything and
everything that weighed anything at all, and wasn't absolutely necessary to
allow the car to run. It really shattered my youthful dreams of a fancy
racing car. It didn't have a tachometer, or even any floorboards under
Moss's knees.....He could see the road whizzing by as he drove, and he sat
on a small piece of padded wood. The only amenity he had was a towel tied to
the door strut so he could wipe the sweat off of his hands. He said he had
no need for a tach, but there was a speedometer, so he could tell how fast
he was going into the turns.....He wore ballet slippers when he drove the
race.....But the important thing was....He won. I remember that he almost
lost to Dan Guerney, who followed him closely the last 20 laps or so.......

  5. Oh yeah, the Cobras are awesome. The McLaren is extremely expensive,
and I will never own one, but I can dream!

  9. I am very impressed Bill that you met Stirling Moss! I wasn't even
thought of back in 1956, but wish I could have met him. He was placed
among the world's elite! He's also called "the greatest driver never
to win the World Championship". You are very fortunate indeed.
    Thanks Bill.
