User-friendly and stable video editing software?

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by newsgroup poster, Nov 30, 2004.

  1. I have numerous MPEG and WMV files that I'd like to edit--take out
commercials, convert between formats, etc. Can anyone recommend a
decent, stable, and user-friendly Windows-based video editing
application and renderer? Extra credit if it can handle simple DVD
    menuing and DVD burning.

There are a plethora of choices: Ulead, Pinnacle Studio, Windows Movie
Maker, and TMPGEnc--to name a few. It seems that no one is really
happy with any of the choices. I've used Studio 8 and 9, but find it
    unintuitive and buggy.

  2. Most of the NLE programs do not handle compressed files very well, I
have had luck with Ulead and mpegs but not with WMV or Divx files. I
use TMPGEnc 3.0 to edit and convert compressed formats to DVD standard
    files. http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tme.html What is really
great about this program is you can dump any number of files into it and
it will automatically set the bitrate so that all files will fit on your
DVD. Then you just use these files as the video source in your
    authoring program.
