Using 512MB XD card in an Olympus C-740?

    Officemax was offering what seemed like a good deal on 512MB XD cards;
    $49 after rebate. So I bought one and popped it into my Olympus C-740.
    It says it has a capacity to take over 600 exposures, so I assume it is
    talking to the card. But a friend said that the manual for the C-740
    said to only use cards up to 256MB. The card I bought actually says
    "olympus" on it, if that means anything. So, what might go wrong if
    I use it?

    The review at Steve's Digicams says it is compatible will all sized xD
    cards. Probably, when yours was produced the largest card was
    256MB. I'd put it in, format it and see what happens. Certainly it will
    not hurt the camera, and if you see that the camera doesn't want to
    give you the number of photos of which a 512MB card is capable bring it
    back. Office Max is usually good about returns. I'll bet it works just
    fine. I remember having similar issues with Oly cameras I've owned. Good
    luck.
